Funding goal set at $80,000 to go directly for projects, improve student attendance and bold new 2019 Campaign
Whitehorse, Yukon–In celebration of our 6th year, The Victoria Gold Yukon Student Encouragement Society’s, “Every Student, Every Day” charitable fund is launching an even more aggressive campaign to work to resolve student attendance in the Yukon. Capable and educated Yukoners will be needed to fill positions in the private sector, the public sector, government and to continue to build this Yukon we all love. In order to achieve this, we need to increase the attendance rates and ultimately the success rates in Yukon schools. To this end, “Every Student Every Day” plans an ambitious 2018, with goals including partnering with Yukon Education to fund over $80k in projects for 2019, engaging with First Nations with a pilot project, a bold social media and video campaign and hiring a passionate, part-time Executive Director.
“Every Student, Every Day”is Victoria Gold Corp.’s charitable initiative, which works with the community to raise awareness and funds to support increased student attendance throughout the Yukon – and ultimately to help build a skilled, local labour force and a thriving community!
The Victoria Gold Yukon Student Encouragement Society’s, “Every Student, Every Day” charitable fund was created in 2012, and in six short years our efforts are demonstrating positive, tangible results in schools from Old Crow to Watson Lake and Mayo to Whitehorse. We know that one of the most important things our territory’s students can do is also one of the most basic: go to school every day. Guided by the volunteer Board of Directors, led by long term Yukoner Tara Christie, “Every Student, Every Day”has raised and distributed over $300,000 to directly support more than 70 grass-roots student attendance projects in our territory’s schools and communities.
We are passionate in our goal to help Yukon students attend school regularly. Supporting success in their learning and in their lives is at the heart of everything we do. Working together as a community we can encourage and remove barriers to regular school attendance. This is one of the most powerful ways we can prepare our children for success – both in school and in life. By making school attendance a priority, we are helping Yukon students get better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behaviour and have an improved chance of graduating from high school.
